New Year, New Home: Protect Your Winter Move

While moving during the summer might make your move more predictable, scheduling your move during the winter has its benefits, too. Choosing to move later in the year, you’ll likely be able to work with your moving company to schedule the exact day you want to move, and it might even be less expensive.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind to prepare for your winter move:

  1. Be flexible. Make sure to account for the extra time it might take for your movers to get to your house to pick up your belongings and drop them off at the new location. Winter weather conditions can make the drive more challenging, and your movers may need to drive more slowly or wait for roads to be plowed before continuing their trip.
  2. Pack belongings with extra wrapping. Snow and icy roads may increase the likelihood that your boxes will shift in the back of the moving van or get dropped while being carried. Add a little extra bubble wrap into your boxes to ensure they’re adequately protected.
  3. Clear walkways at pick-up and drop-off locations. Protect your belongings — and your movers — from accidents by shoveling the sidewalks, driveways, and front steps at both your old and new residences.
  4. Download free resources from FMCSA. Visit our website to learn what to expect when working with movers, the types of documents you should be prepared to receive, what to do if something goes wrong, and much more!

Start 2022 off right with a safe, successful, and stress-free move into your new house!
