The end of the year can be stressful and adding a move to your to-do list can feel overwhelming. Luckily, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has you covered! Use these tips ensure you start 2023 with a successful move.

  1. Ask for recommendations from neighbors and friends. Obtain an estimate from at least three companies to compare costs and services provided.
  2. Use our free database of registered movers and brokers to review any complaints made against a moving company and confirm their insurance information. The database will help you understand your options and select a registered company.
  3. Review all information provided by your mover or broker. You’ll be provided with an estimate of the cost of your move; a bill of lading, which is essentially a receipt of your belongings; and an inventory list that indicates the condition of all your belongings.
  4. When scheduling the pickup and delivery of your goods, ensure that you or someone you trust is available to supervise the loading and unloading of your boxes.
  5. Congratulations on starting the new year in your new home! For more resources, tips, and helpful checklists, visit www.protectyourmove.gov.
